B2 Fueling

Have you ever read a Tom Clancy novel in which he describes the mid air fueling of a supersonic jet? Sounds pretty exciting doesn't it?

Well, if you live in Nebraska you might get a chance to see how this is done. For the rest of us, our colleague Sree Koka has supplied some photos of the process that he took while on a "once in a lifetime" ride with the Nebraska Air National Guard.

The B-2 bombers, Death 34 and Death 35, are approaching the KC-135 at an altitude of 28,500 feet and a speed of 400 mph. In order to make the connection a joystick like device is used to point the fueling terminal at the oncoming bomber. Sree describes this as a pretty incredible process!
